In order to retain these services you must either be a licensed attorney or a non-attorney who wishes to retain us as a consultant to your attorney. Many parties choose this option if their attorney is not an appellate specialist, or if they want to have a paralegal prepare the materials at a significantly lesser rate than would be charged by an attorney. In fact, this is exactly what our law firm clients do: Charge the client “X” amount of dollars for an appeal, then subcontract our services for a fraction of that fee to prepare the work product. The attorney then edits it, submits it to the court and appears for argument. We are contracted on a weekly basis by law firms nationwide for this purpose.

If you choose this option, our work product will be provided to your attorney in an editable format via CD or e-mail. If you pay us directly we will also serve you with a copy of the work product. If you are pro se or pro per on your appeal and are not represented by counsel, we will prepare a pro se brief and appendix for you that is ready to be signed and submitted as-is, but you will need an attorney who will accept a copy of the materials on your behalf. As stated above, it is not difficult to find an attorney you can retain just for the purposes of receiving and reviewing our work product for you.

Moreover, if you retain us, you are technically retaining us to prepare the brief and appendix for the attorney, not for you, although it can be prepared as a pro se brief upon request. We will not provide you legal advice. In other words, this is somewhat of a loophole that will allow us to legally assist you, but it only allows us to review your case, conduct your research and prepare the materials. It does not allow us to counsel with you and provide you legal advice. Only a licensed attorney may provide you legal advice.

This is our company’s firm policy and there are no exceptions to it. Whether you are a law firm retaining us or an individual party retaining us as a consultant to your attorney, payment in full will be required before services will be rendered. We charge a flat rate. We do not charge hourly. You will know the total amount before we begin and all aspects of our agreement will be reduced to writing and signed before we begin.
